Anne Hobbs Purdy was born November 10, 1901 in Missouri, but grew up in Longmont, Colorado. She came to Alaska in 1928 to teach for the Bureau of Indian Affairs and taught in Eagle, Tetlin, and Chicken. She married Fred Purdy of Chicken, a gold miner, in 1940. The couple adopted and raised 11 children. In 1976, Anne Purdy published a popular book titled Tisha based on her experiences as a teacher. She was also the author of numerous newspaper and magazine articles and another book, Dark Boundary...

Gordon, J. Chester

James Chester "Chet" Gordon was born in Lacrosse, Wisconsin, in 1909. In 1956, he moved with his family to Alaska, where they owned and managed radio stations in Anchorage, Fairbanks, and Homer. Gordon was a founder and president of the Boys' Club of Alaska, in which he was active until 1979. In 1978, he received a Gold Pan award for community service from the Alaska Chamber of Commerce. J. Chester Gordon died in Colorado Springs, Colorado, in 2003. From the description of Boys' Club...
